Business Corner August 2018

The US dollar continues to be very strong with the economy in good shape. The stock market is trading with record highs. Un-employment is at an all-time low. The fall elections will give us an indication of the future business outlook. One does not know what the tariff impact will be.
The IWGJ had a July show in New York, it was a small show by NY standards. Summertime is always difficult with many dealers on vacation. Europe takes most of the summer off. Sales were ok with dealers holding out for high prices due to a shortage of good watches.

WHAT’S HOT AND WHAT’S NOT
Men’s Patek Philippe Nautilus watches are very hot; 40mm models in both steel and all gold are strong. Steel and gold models and 36mm are less desirable. Early 41mm automatics are very hot, with platinum and white gold commanding very high prices.
Audemars Piguet men’s Royal Oak Off Shore models 41mm and larger are very hot. Panerai watches have been very slow. Counterfeit models have hurt this market. The pre-owned Jaeger Le Coultre market is soft. Louis Vuitton, Channel, Graham, Gireard-Perragaux, Frank Muller, Eterna, Eberhard, Corum, Chronswiss and Carl F. Bucherer are hard to sell in the secondary market.
